About The Author
William Kinnear
William Kinnear, MD, MRCP
Dr. Kinnear studied at University College London and Westminster Hospital Medical School. Following his training in London and Cambridge, he moved to Nottingham, where he was appointed a consultant respiratory physician in 1993. His interest in respiratory physiology led to a Wellcome travelling fellowship at Erasmus Hospital in Brussels, and he has developed close links with the sport science department at Nottingham Trent University.
Lukas Kalinke, BM, BSc (Hons), MRCP, PGCert, PhD
Dr. Kalinke is a consultant respiratory physician with a long-standing interest in understanding and teaching pathophysiology. He has received numerous awards for his teaching. His PhD was a combined clinical and laboratory-based investigation into preinvasive lung squamous cell lesions. He was previously involved in asthma immunobiology research. His work has been published in Nature Immunology and Science. He has also authored review and editorial articles, as well as a book chapter on preinvasive airway lesions.
Prof. (Hon) James Hull, MBBS, PhD, FRCP, FACSM
Professor Hull is a consultant respiratory physician and sports pulmonologist. His initial interest in cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) began during his medical undergraduate studies at St George’s Hospital, under the guidance of the late Prof. Brian Whipp. He subsequently spent time at UCLA, where he advanced his expertise in the clinical application of CPET. He leads an unexplained breathlessness service, utilizing CPET for hundreds of patients annually. He has published extensively in this field, with a recent focus on identifying abnormal breathing patterns using non-linear statistical methods through CPET.
