Critics Review

“Foraging is an act of reconnection with Earth. The medicine we need in our ailing times is growing right outside our doors freely and abundantly. The Forager’s Apothecary is a comprehensive guide to help us on our journey of identifying, harvesting, and preparing these wild plants and in doing so heal ourselves, our communities, and our Earth.”–Robin Greenfield, environmental activist
The Forager’s Apothecary is wonderfully written and thorough, from plant identification to medicine-making techniques. Suzanne has thought of everything, including recipes for all of your foraged finds. A must-have book for your library!”–Anne-Marie Bilella, the Forager Chick; author of Wild Eating with the Forager Chicks
“Empowering and complete–there isn’t a page in this book I would change. The Forager’s Apothecary is perhaps the most thorough foraging book I’ve ever read. It begins with the foundational skills needed for safe plant identification and ethical wildcrafting, then dives deep into constituents, formulations, and outside-the-box recipes. Truly a gem in my botanical library.”–Jessicka Nebesni, herbal liaison, Mountain Rose Herbs
“Ethical wildcrafting demands precision and respect for plant identity and plant ecosystems. Suzanne brings decades of field experience and deep ecological knowledge to every page of The Forager’s Apothecary. This is not a casual wildcrafter’s handbook–it is a rigorous, ethically grounded guide to edible and medicinal plants, written by someone who has spent a lifetime in relationship with this landscape. Suzanne has been teaching Bastyr University students in wildcrafting courses for over twelve years, and I am pleased to see her wisdom and experience distilled in these pages.”–Kaleb C. Lund, PhD, RH (AHG), chair, Department of Botanical Medicine, Bastyr University
