Critics Review

One of the international bestselling Buddhism books of all time * Book Authority *Marvellous … like all the greatest teachings, it is both simple and complex, and full of love and compassion – Joanna LumleyYou don’t have to be a Buddhist to read it: its mastery lies in the lucid way it presents esoteric ideas * The Telegraph *This book is an extraordinary blessing: heartfelt, wise, practical, luminous – filled with inspiring stories, skillful teachings, and the great compassionate heart of the Buddha. – Jack Kornfield, author of A Path with HeartA magnificent achievement. In its power to touch the heart, to awaken consciousness, it is an inestimable gift. * San Francisco Chronicle Book Review *A clear-eyed and contemporary exploration of the profound insight of The Tibetan Book of the Dead – Stephen Levine, author of Turning Toward the MysteryI have encountered no book on the interplay of life and death that is more comprehensive, practical and wise – Huston Smith, author of The World’s ReligionsFor readers of all religions and readers of none * The Observer *Sogyal Rinpoche…has delivered the Tibetan equivalent of The Divine Comedy. One could imagine that this is what Dante might have written had he been a Buddhist metaphysician rather than a Christian poet. * New York Times Book Review *Rinpoche’s teachings have much to offer…. His down-to-earth tone, peppered with songs and poetry from Buddhist sages, takes away much of the intense fear of death and makes it seem like an old friend. * Los Angeles Times *

About The Author

Sogyal Rinpoche

Born in Kham in Eastern Tibet, Sogyal Rinpoche was recognized at an early age as the incarnation of Terton Sogyal Lerab Lingpa - a teacher to the Thirteenth Dalai Lama. He received the traditional training of a Tibetan lama under the close supervision of Jamyang Khyentse Chokyi Lodro, one of the most outstanding spiritual masters of the twentieth century. Rinpoche went on to study with many other teachers from all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. He visited many countries, observing the reality of individuals’ lives, and seeking to make the Tibetan Buddhist teachings meaningful to modern people. Out of this was born his unique style of teaching and his acute ability to attune the teachings to modern life. Rinpoche founded Rigpa, an international network of Buddhist centres. He passed away in 2019.
