Shane Hegarty (Author)

Shane Hegarty is the author of the critically acclaimed Boot series and the Darkmouth series. Boot was shortlisted for the Sainsbury’s Book Award, nominated for an An Post Irish Book Award, and chosen as the UNESCO Dublin City of Literature Citywide Read. Darkmouth received nominations for the Waterstones Prize, An Post Irish Book Awards, and the Bord Gais Irish Book Awards. Before dedicating himself to writing full-time, Shane worked as a journalist and editor for The Irish Times, and also contributed to radio and the music industry. He resides in Skerries, County Dublin.

Ben Mantle (Illustrator)

Ben Mantle is the illustrator of Shane Hegarty’s Boot series, which was shortlisted for the Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Award. His picture book, The Best Birthday Present Ever, earned him the Dundee Picture Book Award. Ben has also illustrated covers for well-known fiction titles, including Piers Torday’s The Lost Magician and Jenny McLachlan’s The Land of Roar. After studying Animation at the Surrey Institute of Art & Design, he worked as an animator. Since 2008, Ben has focused on illustrating children’s books, and also creates screen prints and digital artwork for exhibitions. He lives in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.
