Robert McCloskey
Robert McCloskey (1914-2003) was an acclaimed author and illustrator of children’s books. He grew up in Hamilton, Ohio, and lived in Boston, New York, and Maine, where he raised his two daughters with his wife.
McCloskey was the first recipient of two Caldecott Medals, awarded for Make Way for Ducklings and Time of Wonder. He also received Caldecott Honors for Blueberries for Sal, One Morning in Maine, and Journey Cake, Ho! by Ruth Sawyer.
In 2000, the Library of Congress recognized him as a Living Legend. His beloved characters are immortalized in statues located in Boston’s Public Garden and Lentil Park in Hamilton, Ohio.
