About The Author

Robert Macfarlane

Candice Carty-Williams is a novelist, showrunner, and culture writer, born and raised in south London, with Jamaican heritage. She is the author of:

  • Queenie, winner of the Book of the Year Award and a Sunday Times bestseller.
  • Empress and Aniya, a young adult novella.
  • People Person, a Sunday Times bestseller.

In 2024, she adapted Queenie for Channel 4 and Hulu. In 2023, she wrote and showran the original drama Champion for Netflix and BBC One.

In 2016, Candice created and launched the Guardian and 4th Estate 4thWrite Prize, the first inclusive initiative of its kind in book publishing, aimed at supporting underrepresented writers.

She is a former Guardian Review books columnist and has written for publications including i-D, Vogue, The Face, the Sunday Times, BEAT Magazine, and Black Ballad.
