About The Author

Robert Cameron

Robert Cameron’s interest in snails began as a student, drawn away from birds by his supervisor, Arthur Cain. His career has been primarily in Adult Education at Birmingham and Sheffield Universities, starting in Portsmouth. His PhD focused on the shell polymorphism in Cepaea snails, a continuing core interest, leading to involvement in the Evolution MegaLab in 2009, commemorating Darwin Year. The biogeography and ecology of land snails have been a central focus throughout his career, taking him to Australia, Canada, Greece, Madeira, the Azores, and Central and Eastern Europe. He co-authored (with Michael Kerney) the Field Guide to the Land Snails of Britain and North-West Europe (1979) and has created keys to the British species. He has authored or co-authored over 140 papers on snails.
