Rob Hirst

Born in Camden, New South Wales, Rob Hirst was a founding member of the internationally successful band Midnight Oil. He wrote and co-wrote numerous classic Australian songs, including ‘Beds Are Burning’, ‘The Dead Heart’, ‘Best of Both Worlds’, ‘Forgotten Years’, and ‘Kosciusko’.

Hirst’s talents as a singer, songwriter, drummer, and guitarist can also be heard on his many collaborations with artists such as The Backsliders, The Ghostwriters, The Break, Paul Greene, Jay O’Shea, Lez Karski, Sean Sennett, Jim Moginie, and Hamish Stuart.

He was also a published author. His book, Willie’s Bar and Grill (Picador), recounts his band’s tour of a shell-shocked America in the months following 9⁄11.
