About The Author

Rob Boughton

Robert Boughton, Trafford’s fourth son, was never far away from the Boughton engineering business. Despite his career propelling him in a different direction, one that involves flying aircraft, he has remained passionate about the history of the family business, particularly with Black Jack and its preservation. Robert has taken his father’s original manuscript and brought it up to date and hopes that the proceeds of this book will assist in keeping Black Jack running for many years to come.

Trafford Boughton, born in 1913, was elder son to ‘Young Mr. Tom’ and grew up immersed in the family engineering business. Together with his brother, he helped grow the concern to one of international renown. Trafford was an engineer with an affection for all things steam-powered, in particular Black Jack, which he inherited from his father, and fortunately he put pen to paper to record Black Jack’s early life for posterity.
