About The Author

Professor Stuart Bloom

Dr. Stuart Bloom is a Consultant Physician with expertise in acute and general medicine, gastroenterology, and endoscopy. He studied medicine at Oxford and St Thomas’, and was awarded a doctorate and an MRC training ward for research on the molecular pathogenesis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He trained in General Medicine and gastroenterology at Oxford and Liverpool, and was appointed consultant gastroenterologist to UCL Hospitals in 1996. He has expertise in clinical trials of biologic agents in inflammatory bowel disease and, alongside his role at UCLH, is medical director of the UK IBD Registry. He is a keen educator, and as well as regular involvement in undergraduate teaching and organising the teaching module in gastroenterology, has been responsible for organising and delivering a curriculum-based postgraduate teaching course in IBD.

Dr. George Webster has been a specialist in gastroenterology and hepatology for more than 15 years at University College Hospital London, where he is the clinical lead for HPB medicine (problems involving the liver, pancreas, and biliary system). He is also the Vice President (endoscopy) for the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) and on the Council of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE). His clinical practice includes general gastroenterology and hepatology. He has a special interest in delivering the highest quality of diagnostic and interventional endoscopy and colonoscopy, with a particular expertise in HPB endoscopy (ERCP and cholangioscopy).

Dr. Daniel Marks is a Consultant Physician with expertise in acute and general medicine, clinical pharmacology, the immunopathogenesis of chronic inflammatory diseases, and drug development. He studied medicine at University College London, and was awarded a PhD and Wellcome Trust Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for his work on the immunology of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He trained in General Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology at University College London Hospital, during which he developed his subspecialty interests in drug discovery and clinical toxicology. He has deep expertise in clinical trials and immunotherapeutics and, alongside his role at UCLH, is Physician Director for Discovery Medicine at GlaxoSmithKline and Executive Editor of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. He is a keen educator and has received multiple awards for his regular contributions to both undergraduate and postgraduate training.
