Author Biographies

Dr. Mohd Shariq, Ph.D.

Dr. Mohd Shariq holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, specializing in the Cellular and Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases. He has authored 30 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Autophagy, Journal of Medical Virology, European Respiratory Review, and Frontiers in Immunology. Dr. Shariq has mentored numerous students in independent research projects and brings extensive expertise in Cellular and Molecular Biology and Microbiology to his role as Assistant Professor at GITAM University, Hyderabad. Previously, as a Senior Scientist and Group Leader at QuantLase Imaging Laboratory, he published four research articles in international journals including Cellular and Molecular Biology Letters (Springer). His research has focused on host-pathogen interactions in tuberculosis, the role of M. tb proteins in inflammation and autophagy regulation, and mechanisms of drug resistance in Candida albicans and Helicobacter pylori. Dr. Shariq actively serves as a reviewer for journals like Frontiers and Scientific Reports, and as a review editor for Gut Pathogens and Frontiers.

Professor Seyed E. Hasnain

Professor Seyed E. Hasnain is an internationally recognized researcher in tuberculosis, with expertise in infection biology and functional epidemiology. His significant contributions have been acknowledged through numerous prestigious awards and fellowships, including the Robert Koch Fellowship in Berlin, Membership of the American Academy of Microbiology, and induction into the German National Academy of Sciences-Leopoldina. He is a Fellow of TWAS (Italy) and all major Indian Science Academies (FNA/FASc/FNASc). Prof. Hasnain’s accolades also include the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award, the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the GD Birla Award, and the JC Bose Fellowship. He has held distinguished positions such as a member of the Science Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India (2004-2014), inaugural Director of the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics in Hyderabad, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad (2005-2011), Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard University (2016-2021), and invited Professor at IIT-Delhi (2011-2019). Currently, Prof. Hasnain is a National Science Chair at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D), and a Distinguished Professor at Sharda University.

Professor Nasreen Z. Ehtesham

Professor Nasreen Z. Ehtesham earned her Master’s degree from Aligarh Muslim University and pursued graduate training at the University of Alberta, Canada. She obtained her Ph.D. from the National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi, followed by a Rockefeller Postdoc Fellowship at the ICGEB. As Deputy Director at the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, her research group investigated the link between nutrition, inflammation biology, and pathogenesis using the Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection model. Prof. Ehtesham has contributed to decision-making bodies of the Health Ministry and S&T Ministry and has published over 100 research papers in journals such as PNAS, with more than 5000 citations. She served as Director-in-Charge at the ICMR National Institute of Pathology, New Delhi, and is an Elected Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, the National Academy of Sciences, India, and the Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences, India. Her awards include the ICMR Kshanika Award and the Outstanding Work of the Year Award from NII, New Delhi. Prof. Ehtesham is a member of various professional societies and serves on the editorial boards of journals including Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry and Gut Pathogens. Currently, she is a Distinguished Professor at Sharda University.
