Beneath the Crimson Maples

The book, Beneath the Crimson Maples, takes place in northwestern Milwaukee as peoples of color fret with whites and Hispanics, their storied misfortunes hidden beneath the grounds of a once proud community. Uncertainty becomes the ever-present mantra as their hidden worlds de-evolve into yesterday’s silenced hate reappears in all shapes and sizes. Parents become less knowledgeable of the youth’s brand new twenty-first century as an elderly man and his new girl decide to sell their homes and move on to a different life all their own. Meanwhile, life still inches along in Milwaukee. The only difference are the names: the question is how does one differentiate a new generation of Milwaukee to its aging elders?
