What They're Saying

Critics Review

“Featuring impressive illustrations, The Rise of Persia and the First Greco-Persian Wars is… [as] fascinating as it is informative.”

“Kambouris explores the contrasting strategic cultures of Persia and Greece. These contrasts illuminate the challenges of inter-civilizational warfare and the role of political structures in shaping military effectiveness. The prose is dense and descriptive, occasionally requiring careful parsing, but a close reading reveals some detail and thoughtful interpretation. Maps and diagrams enhance the analytical text of the battle and campaign narrative.”– “Journal of Military History”
”[C]ontains a marvelous description of troop types, weaponry, armor, and battlefield uses–all cross referenced with various sources… for those interested in Persian military history, this is an excellent book–not too long, not too short, nice prose, and thoughtful analysis.“– “Historical Miniatures Gaming Society”
“Featuring impressive illustrations, The Rise of Persia and the First Greco-Persian Wars is… [as] fascinating as it is informative.”– “Midwest Book Review”
