Critics Review
Most of this book is done in US terms, but there is an abbreviations page which shows what it is in UK terms too. There are a range of projects including lucky charms, and then it goes into the zodiac as well, where you can find your star sign to create. This is a great book if you’re looking for something small to gift. It is a great book if people like doing these little amigurumi creatures. There are other books in the series – animals, birds, woodlands and more.
* Alison Russell *Crochet 28 figures inspired by lucky charms, classic and Chinese zodiac signs. Perfect for all levels, essential stitches and techniques are included. Projects are quick and easy, with step-by-step instructions and diagrams included.
* Machine Knitting Monthly - December 2025 *A very informative and inspiring little book for those who enjoy amigurumi crochet and the zodiac. The size of the finished 28 projects is just right for using up your stash. The book shows how to make the 12 classic zodiac signs, the 12 animals from the Chinese zodiac and 4 classic charms such as a toadstool.
The book is clearly set out starting with basic techniques. It includes both written instructions and a drawing of each technique, which means the book is very accessible to those who might not have done any crochet before, or just a quick reminder for others.
Then there are the patterns in three sections, with the first page having beautiful photographs of all the finished projects. The following pages have very clear instructions to work from. Each pattern is graded for difficulty with a number of hearts ranging from 1 heart to 3 hearts.
I particularly liked the Chinese zodiac initial page as it had the year dates alongside the different animals which meant for my brother’s 70th birthday I was able to identify the correct Chinese animal to crochet for his celebration.
I would really recommend this book, give it a go even if you have not done much crochet before.

Linda Urbanneck was born into an extremely creative family, but she didn’t develop her passion for crochet until 2019 when she saw a video on amigurumi. Little by little she taught herself to crochet, initially as a hobby, but over time this passion moved increasingly into a profession. Linda created her first own pattern in 2020, and subsequently established her own label under the name ‘Haekellobby’. When she’s not busy with her wool stash and crochet hooks, Linda enjoys family life with her husband and three sons in southern Germany.
