About The Author

Kirk Smock

Kirk Smock lived in Guyana for three years and has spent a total of seven years working there as a tourism consultant, helping local stakeholders build birding and adventure travel sectors in the country. The author of Bradt’s Guyana guidebook, Smock still considers it a great honour to have spent countless weeks in Guyana’s interior, enveloped by its astonishing nature and spending time alongside its amazing people. Guyana was also where Smock started playing around with baking bread, a hobby that eventually led to him setting up his own bakery, ORIGIN Breads. He lives with his wife and two sons in Madison, Wisconsin, USA.

Becca Marsh is a travel writer, photographer and adventurer who has been exploring the world through the lens of culture, nature and overlanding. In 2016, she embarked on a round-the-world overlanding adventure, travelling west to east, and then from north to south through South America. This sparked a key interest in the continent that has drawn her back for many years. Marsh has completed several overlanding trips in South America, working with the British Embassy and tourism boards to promote her projects. Her work has been published in magazines worldwide, including Wanderlust and BBC Sky at Night. She is a member of the British Guild of Travel Writers and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, reflecting her commitment to meaningful, thoughtful travel storytelling - uncovering the lesser-known paths of the world, connecting with people and sharing stories that inspire a deeper understanding of our planet.
