Summary

Process intensification uses innovations in the design of equipment and processes to create more efficient, safer, and less wasteful chemical processes. Working on principles of avoiding unnecessary extras, reducing the size of set ups and tightly controlling reactions, there are benefits both in sustainability and in the economics of the processes.

Beginning with basic chemical engineering principles for chemists and those who need a refresher, this textbook aims to teach process int…

About The Author

Kamelia Boodhoo

Professor Kamelia Boodhoo is Professor of Intensified Chemical Processing with expertise in the development of the spinning disc reactor for application in nanoparticles, polymerisation and bio-based processing.

Dr Fernando Russo Abegão is a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering and his research is focused on catalysis and reaction engineering applied to production of biorenewable chemicals and photocatalysis.

Professor Adam Harvey is Professor of Process Intensification with expertise in Oscillatory Baffled Reactors and Non-Thermal Plasma.

Dr Jonathan Lee is a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering who specialises in designing and applying rotating packed beds for liquid-liquid extractions and CO2 sequestration amongst others.

Dr Vladimir Zivkovic is a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering whose research interests are in particle technology and multi-phase flow with emphasis on the study of various forms of fluidized beds and rotating drums.

Dr Richard Law is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering at Newcastle University. He has worked in the broad field of process intensification since 2010, often with a particular focus on technologies for heat transfer enhancement and compact heat exchangers.
