Jerzy Dlugonski
Jerzy Aleksy Długoński
Professor of Biological Sciences, specializing in microbial biotechnology, industrial microbiology, and mycology.
In 1971, Jerzy Aleksy Długoński graduated in biology with a specialization in microbiology from the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences (now the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection) at the University of Łódź, Poland. He defended his doctoral (1979) and habilitation (1993) theses at the same faculty, focusing on the production of anti-inflammatory steroid drugs by bacteria and fungi.
Following his habilitation, his research expanded to include microbial detoxification and biodegradation of environmentally harmful xenobiotics.
From 1993 to 1996, he served as the deputy vice-dean of the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection at the University of Łódź. Subsequently, from 1996 to 2008, he was the deputy director of the Institute of Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Immunology at the University of Łódź. From 1994 to 2018, he headed the Department of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology at the University of Łódź.
He has supervised nine defended doctoral theses, with two more currently in progress. He is the author and co-author of numerous peer-reviewed publications in microbial physiology and biotechnology, including the book Microbial Biodegradation: From Omics to Function and Application, published by Caister Academic Press.
Jerzy Aleksy Długoński has reviewed numerous doctoral and habilitation theses, as well as applications for the academic title of professor. From 2013 to 2020, he was a member of the Central Committee for Degrees and Titles in Poland. He has also co-organized several national and international congresses in microbiology and biotechnology.
