Jerry Yulsman (1924-1999) was a writer and photographer. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the Second World War, earning a Distinguished Flying Cross. Returning to New York, he worked as a freelance photographer, documenting the cultural rebellion and renaissance of post-war America in Greenwich Village. His photography was featured in publications such as Colliers, Pageant, Look, LIFE, and Playboy. His 1957 photograph of Jack Kerouac, illuminated by the glow of a neighborhood bar sign, is considered an iconic image of 20th-century photography. His best-known novel is the alternative history, Elleander Morning.
