Critics Review
Body Safety Education is a non-fiction resource that will help parents and educators empower our children to know what is unsafe touch and what to do about it. Sadly 85% of children who are sexually abused know the offender and the most vulnerable age for children to be exposed to sexual abuse is 3-8. This book is full of helpful information and facts that everyone needs to know. Child sex offenders are often charming and appear reliable and trustworthy and they groom both the child and the child’s family by paying special attention and spending lots of time with them. –Maggie Dent What a simple, step-by-step, empowering guide for parents! You may worry that you can’t educate your child about sexual abuse without scaring her, or raising inappropriate topics. But in fact there are age-appropriate ways to introduce the concept of body safety and to develop your child’s understanding over time. You don’t need to even mention sex or sexual abuse. One terrific book to guide you is Jayneen Sander’s new book. If, like so many parents, you feel at a loss for how to get started having these conversations with your child, get your hands on this book. –Dr Laura, Aha Parenting
About The Author
Jayneen Sanders
Jayneen Sanders
Jayneen Sanders, also known as Jay Dale, is an experienced Australian early years educator, children’s book author, and publisher.
She began her teaching career in the 1980s as a primary school teacher in rural Queensland, Australia, before moving to Melbourne, Victoria, where she taught at several inner-city schools. In 1985, Jayneen transitioned to a career as an educational editor and publisher.
In the early 1990s, Jayneen and her partner moved to Japan to work as English teachers. They lived and worked there for over three and a half years, during which time Jayneen’s first daughter was born.
Upon returning to Australia, Jayneen began working as an educational author and packager. She has since authored and produced numerous award-winning titles for the educational publishing industry. Jayneen is also an accomplished children’s book author, contributing to literacy series such as ZigZags, Totally Kidz, and Deadly and Incredible, as well as a children’s picture book series for Penguin.
Currently, Jayneen is the lead author for the literacy series ‘Engage Literacy,’ published by Capstone, for which she has written over 150 titles.
A mother of three daughters and a former school councillor, Jayneen’s extensive experience in schools, both as a teacher and a parent, inspired her to address the critical issue of child protection. Her realization that little was being done to safeguard children from inappropriate touch led her to utilize her authoring and publishing skills to write ‘Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept.’ This book aims to assist parents, carers, and teachers in discussing this sensitive subject and empowering children to speak out.
Following the positive reception of ‘Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept,’ Jayneen recognized a significant need for further prevention education. She pursued professional development in Protective Behaviours and attended numerous conferences on child safety, equipping herself with the knowledge to provide age-appropriate and empowering body safety and consent education.
Jayneen has since developed and published a comprehensive Body Safety and Respectful Relationship Teacher’s Resource Kit. She has also authored numerous children’s books focusing on body safety, consent, respect, gender equality, social and emotional intelligence, and diversity and inclusion.
Jayneen currently co-runs Educate2Empower Publishing with her partner, Mark Sanders. Her commitment to the safety and empowerment of children remains a driving force, with new manuscripts and free downloadable resources continually in development.
