Summary

The FPV Drone Handbook was written with one goal in mind: to give every beginner the foundation they need to build, program, and fly their own FPV drone, confidently, safely, and without needing to piece together information from a dozen different YouTube videos and online forums. FPV (First-Person View) drones are genuinely exciting. The technology is accessible, the community is passionate, and the learning curve, while real, is absolutely conquerable with the right guide. This book is that…

About The Author

Jason Goss

Jason Goss

Jason Goss is the Founder and Director of Hot Goss Innovations (HGI), a specialist consultancy delivering Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Counter UAS training, capability development, and operational support across Australia.

Drawing on his experience as a Tactical Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Flight Instructor in the Australian Army, Jason has spent years working at the forefront of drone operations, training, testing, and capability development. His career has seen him design and deliver introduction to service training programs, support international defence organisations entering the Australian market, and work alongside major defence contractors to solve complex operational challenges.

A lifelong learner and hands-on problem solver, Jason established HGI in 2020 to combine his passion for uncrewed systems, technology, and innovation. His expertise extends beyond drone operations into CAD design, additive manufacturing, experimental test and evaluation, and advanced FPV flight systems.

Today, Jason serves as a Chief Drone Pilot and Experimental Test and Evaluation Assessor, helping organisations develop practical, effective, and sustainable UAS capabilities. His approach is grounded in real-world experience, focusing on what works in the field rather than what looks good on paper.

This book reflects that philosophy. Written for pilots, builders, and enthusiasts alike, it provides a straightforward guide to FPV drones based on lessons learned through years of flying, building, testing, and teaching. Free from unnecessary jargon and technical fluff, Jason shares the knowledge he wishes he had when he first entered the world of FPV flight.

When he is not flying drones, designing new systems, or developing training programs, Jason can usually be found experimenting with new technology, refining designs, and continuing his pursuit of practical innovation.
