Critics Review

‘Henderson’s book is an antidote to the maxxing mindset and all its attendant ills. I never knew philosophy could be so tender and so personal. I loved this book’ – Brandon Taylor, Booker Prize shortlisted author for Real Life
‘A passionate defense of the value of thinking, and reading, built out of Henderson’s own life in passionate love with the whole vast tumult of the world of ideas’ – C. Thi Nguyen, author of The Score
‘Jared Henderson’s brilliant debut is a much-needed corrective to the excesses of our time and a valuable reminder that the contemplative life is still possible in a digital age’ – Ted Gioia, writer of The Honest Broker Substack
‘A must-read for all who seek to learn for its own sake’ – Zena Hitz, author of Lost in Thought
‘Henderson recovers the ancient idea that philosophy is not primarily a form of expertise housed within the gates of our elite universities, but a path to wisdom open to us all.
