Critics Review
“In 2000 or so, I walked into a Janet Stone yoga class. My inner life shifted. Janet is a devoted student of her teachers, and her teachers’ teachers. Her ever-renewed being-ness, her showing up for all of life, and breathing through it all, glimmers and shines in this book. Her wise and pithy sharing of tales reveals the aspects of my contemporary self within fascinating ancient narratives. Long before there was Internal Family Systems, there were puranas.” – Ashley Judd, MPA, author, humanitarian, and actor“In 2000 or so, I walked into a Janet Stone yoga class. My inner life shifted. Stories of Our Lives is an offering of myth as living wisdom, as archetypal mirrors through which we see our own evolution. These words are radiant and alive, both balm and awakening for us.” – Elena Brower, bestselling author of Practice You and Hold Nothing“With reverence and grounded grace, Janet Stone invites us into the ancient stories that have shaped her life, so we can practice remembering ourselves. It is the perfect book to read to kids and give to teens, but also a wonderful read for all those adults who still love a good story and who understand that if we lose our mythology, we lose our humanity. Highly recommended.” – Christopher (Hareesh) Wallis, MA, MPhil, PhD“This beautiful and heartfelt book not only contains captivating versions of India’s classic myths related in accessible language, but it also invites profound contemplation of the import of those stories for our lives. Her storytelling is medicine: grounded in practice, generous in spirit, and alive with love. She carries the wisdom of the pura?as with reverence, yet brings them into the modern world with a clarity and warmth that make them feel profoundly relevant. Every page is an offering, an invitation to listen deeply, to remember who we truly are, and to live these timeless truths in our own imperfect, beautiful, human way.” – Seane Corn, yoga teacher and author of Revolution of the Soul“Janet has poured her whole being into Stories of Our Lives, a luminous weaving of ancient teachings, lived experience, and soul.
