Critics Review
‘Code Blue does more than recount a criminal investigation whose many twists and turns we would rather not reveal. Beneath the surface, the author also paints a portrait of his native United States, exposing everything that is wrong with a democracy preparing to celebrate their 250th anniversary in July. This is familiar territory for Adelstein. Much like David Simon with his exceptional television series The Wire, which uses the war on drugs to dissect America’s legal, political, and social systems, Adelstein consistently wields his razor-sharp pen to dismantle the conventional wisdom and myths that surround a society. This time, it is the American Dream and the notion of “the world’s greatest democracy” that end up on the slab.’
* Le Figaro Magazine *‘Code Blue is a breathtaking investigation, a battle against oblivion.’
* Le Parisien Week-end *‘Jake Adelstein pulls off a tour de force, transforming a thirty-year-old medical investigation into a gripping, deeply human, and extraordinarily immersive narrative.’
* La Principauté *Jake Adelstein
