G.A. Henty

George Alfred Henty (8 December 1832 – 16 November 1902) was an English author and war correspondent, best known for his historical fiction and adventure books. Notable works include The Dragon & The Raven (1886), For The Temple (1888), Under Drake’s Flag (1883), and In Freedom’s Cause (1885). Henty was a British journalist and war correspondent, educated in Cambridge at Gonville and Caius College. He covered significant wars, including the Italian and Austro-Italian Wars. He authored 122 books, primarily aimed at young readers, as well as non-fiction, adult fiction, and short stories. Henty’s stories typically feature a boy or young man navigating a challenging situation. His characters are portrayed as unassuming, astute, courageous, truthful, and resourceful, exhibiting significant “pluck.” The publication date was included on the title page of the first printings of Henty’s 122 historical fiction works.
