Frederick Moore
Frederick Moore is a prolific lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist known for founding rock bands such as Minneapolis-based Skogie and the Flaming Pachucos in the 1960s. In the late 1970s, he formed the rock/power pop band The Kats / Nu Kats, which set attendance records at legendary Los Angeles clubs like Whisky a Go Go, Starwood, and The Troubadour. Freddy has written over 1,000 songs from various locations, including basement bedrooms, while lying on pool tables, and even mid-moped crashes.
His published records include Skogie’s Call Me Crazy (North Country Music, 1972) and The Butler Did It (Mill City Records, 1973). Albums and EPs include Skogie’s There’s a String Attached to Almost Everything We Do (General Records, 1974), The Nu Kats’ Plastic Facts EP (Rhino Records, 1980), Boy’s Next Door EP (Radioactive Records, 1983), The Kat Club’s House Combinations (General Records, 1997), Source Mississippi (General Records, 2001), and Los Angelenos (General Records, 2007).
The Kats and Nu Kats’ music has been featured on Rhino Records’ compilation album L.A. In (1979) and Yes Nukes (1981). Freddy’s music is also available on iTunes and Spotify. The Kats’ hits “It’s Not a Rumour” and “Lost My TV Guide” were featured on the television show Hollywood Heartbeat, hosted by Bob Welch of Fleetwood Mac, on MTV, and received local radio play. His songs have appeared on movie soundtracks, including the 1982 cult horror film Parasite (in which he also co-starred as Arn, with then-wife Demi Moore), the 1985 movies Loose Screws II and Spring Fever, and the 2013 CW series The Carrie Diaries.
Freddy’s additional filmography includes being featured in United Artists Pictures’ experimental 70mm 3D film I’m a Kat (1979), and the music video “It’s Not a Rumour,” featuring Demi Moore and cinematographer Jan de Bont, directed by Philip Brewin Cheney.
Freddy spent his life persevering through challenges. He is currently in late-stage Alzheimer’s and resides in a caregiving facility in Los Angeles, California, where his wife of over thirty years, Renee, remains by his side, and he can still tell her, “I love you.”
