Francis A. Farraye
Francis A. Farraye, MD, MS
Dr. Farraye is the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, and a Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine. A gastroenterologist and clinical investigator with 33 years of practice, he manages patients with IBD in an academic setting. He is a frequent speaker on the diagnosis and management of IBD and has authored or coauthored more than 450 scientific manuscripts, chapters, reviews, and abstracts. He is the editor in chief of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Journal Scan, published weekly by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Farraye coedited Curbside Consultation in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and GI Emergencies.
He has received numerous accolades, including the New England Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation’s Humanitarian of the Year award (2003) and their Lifetime Achievement Award (2020). In 2009, he was honored with the William Carey Award from the American College of Gastroenterology for his service to the college. He is a fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Gastroenterological Association, and a master in the American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Farraye resides in Jacksonville, Florida.
Sunanda V. Kane, MD, MSPH
Dr. Kane is a Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She also serves as the Physician Chair of the Mayo Clinic Quality Academy’s Fellow Subcommittee and the Assistant Chair of Patient Experience in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division at the Mayo Clinic. With 22 years in practice, Dr. Kane was the President of the American College of Gastroenterology from 2018 to 2019 and recently completed a five-year term on the Gastroenterology Specialty Council of the American Board of Internal Medicine. She also chaired the National Patient Education Committee for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
Her clinical practice focuses on IBD, and her research interests include new therapies, gender-specific issues, and medication adherence. She has authored more than 200 chapters, articles, and reviews, in addition to contributing to the first two editions of this book. Dr. Kane was the first woman associate editor of Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics and is the IBD section editor for UpToDate. She holds various editorial roles for other journals. Dr. Kane lives in Rochester, Minnesota.
