About The Author

Fran Danis

Fran S. Danis (Ph.D., Case Western Reserve University) is an associate professor emerita from the University of Texas at Arlington and recognized by the National Association of Social Workers as a Social Work Pioneer®. In 1980, she became the founding executive director of Denton County Friends of the Family, Texas, providing services to sexual assault and domestic violence survivors and their children. During her career, she served on the board of the Texas Council on Family Violence, conducted research and evaluation studies on gender-based violence, and taught university courses on domestic violence. She cofounded (with Lettie Lockhart) the Violence Against Women and Their Children track of the Council on Social Work Education’s Annual Program Meeting.
