Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014)
Eric Hill OBE was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, progressing to become a cartoonist and subsequently an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son featuring a small puppy, thus bringing Spot to life. His book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This groundbreaking interactive children’s book featured a lift-the-flap format, a simple narrative, and charming, distinctive illustrations. The immediate success of Where’s Spot? inspired him to dedicate himself fully to writing. Since then, Spot books have been cherished by children globally and have expanded into audiobooks, animation, toys, and games.
