Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot.
He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, progressing to become a cartoonist and later, an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric created a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, and thus Spot was conceived. His first book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured an innovative lift-the-flap design, paired with a simple narrative and endearing, distinctive illustrations.
The book’s immediate success inspired Eric to dedicate himself fully to writing. Since then, Spot books have brought joy to children globally, alongside adaptations into audio books, animations, toys, and games.
