Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, later transitioning into a career as a cartoonist and eventually serving as an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a story about a small puppy to share with his son at bedtime, thus bringing Spot to life. He published “Where’s Spot?” in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured an innovative lift-the-flap format, complemented by a simple narrative and engaging, distinctive illustrations. The book’s instant success prompted Eric to dedicate himself fully to writing, and the Spot series has since been cherished by children globally, extending into audiobooks, animation, toys, and games.
