Eric Hill
Eric Hill (Author, Illustrator)
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character, Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, later transitioning to a cartoonist and eventually serving as an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, and thus, Spot was created. His groundbreaking lift-the-flap book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. Combining a simple narrative with endearing, quirky illustrations, the book’s interactive format was revolutionary for its time. The immediate success of Where’s Spot? inspired him to pursue writing full-time.
Since then, Spot books have captivated children globally and have been adapted into audiobooks, animations, toys, and games.
