Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, later transitioning to a career as a cartoonist and eventually serving as an art director for a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a story about a small puppy to tell his son at bedtime, and thus, Spot was created. His first book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured an innovative lift-the-flap format, coupled with a simple narrative and endearing, whimsical illustrations. The book’s immediate success inspired him to dedicate himself fully to writing. Since then, Spot books have brought joy to children globally, extending into audiobooks, animation, toys, and games.
