Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, later transitioning into cartooning and eventually serving as an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric crafted a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, thus giving birth to Spot. He published “Where’s Spot?” in 1980, an interactive children’s book that featured an innovative lift-the-flap format, a simple narrative, and charming, distinctive illustrations. The book’s instant popularity inspired him to become a full-time author. Since then, Spot books have delighted children globally, alongside adaptations into audiobooks, animations, toys, and games.
