Insects are essential for life as we know it. There are at least one million species of insects, together making up over 80 per cent of all living species on Earth. Around 10,000 new species of insects are discovered every year. In Insectarium learn about the secret world thriving right underneath your feet. How did insects evolve into what they are today? How do they work together and how do they defend themselves?
Explore the rooms of Insectarium and meet the beautiful demoiselle and the gigantic goliath beetle. Learn why these small creatures have such a huge impact on the world around us, and why we should be protecting them.
This latest addition to the Welcome to the Museum series will appeal to any budding entomologist or nature lover with a thirst for more knowledge.
Written by award-winning author, Dave Goulson.
This stunning tour showcases an incredible collection of insects of every shape and colour from around the world, enabling readers to wander through curated exhibits on every page, all accompanied by an informative text. [...] A must-have for all budding entomologists and nature lovers. -- Pam Norfolk Lancashire Evening Post
I defy any child (or adult for that matter) with even the slightest interest in insects not to be utterly captivated by this book. The enormous and richly illustrated pages take you on a journey through a magnificent museum of insects, starting with an introduction to insect life, visiting bugs, flies, beetles, moths and more, then ending your journey in the museum library (index). The full-page illustrations show off the intricate beauty of the insect world, whilst the accompanying text provides fascinating insights into their bizarre lives. Readers will not be able to resist sharing their discoveries with others (did you know earwigs can fly?!). I wouldn't worry too much about finding a place to shelve this large format volume, as if it isn't in the hands of a reader, you'll find it in the art or science department. -- Becky West The School Librarian
