What They're Saying

Critics Review

‘The 3rd edition of Clinical Supervision Made Easy more than delivers what its title promises. This book offers clear, practical guidance which will be of value across the helping professions, but most particularly for both supervisors and supervisees who are new to reflective, relationally attuned clinical supervision. A practical three-step model is well elaborated and illustrated, providing a containing structure to facilitate mutually respectful and productive reflection and exploration of practice. There is also much that experienced supervisors and supervisees will appreciate, particularly the inspiring chapter on creative methods, with many clearly described examples to enhance supervisory practice, and the timely attention to what the author terms the ‘contextual turn’ in psychotherapy with chapters dedicated to using the three-step model as a decolonising tool, and to explore the significance of the climate crisis for our practice. Highly recommended and will be added as essential reading to my clinical supervisor training programme.’
Dr Aisling McMahon, Assistant Professor in Psychotherapy & Chair of Professional Diploma in Clinical Supervision in the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health at Dublin City University

‘Written in a warm, accessible style, Ooijen skilfully widens the frame and deepens the practice of mental health therapies through her exploration of relational dynamics, ethical concerns, and contextual awareness. Already a classic in the field, this third edition of Clinical Supervision Made Easy extends its work by introducing decolonisation and climate awareness as significant concerns in therapeutic practice. Packed with case studies, personal stories, insights and reflective questions, this beautiful book is an essential companion for any supervisor, and indeed any mental health practitioner seeking compassionate guidance in extending their clinical consciousness and conscience.’
Dr Sally Gillespie, author of Climate Crisis and Consciousness: Re-imagining our world and ourselves

‘This updated version of the seminal supervision book provides supervisors, be they experienced or newly qualified, with the foothold needed as our profession emerges out of darkness of a global pandemic and out into the foggy political environment of wars and political polarisation, as well as the full impact of climate change. Timely, full of tacit knowledge, and rich with contemporary ideas around decolonising supervision as well as utilising the creative in supervision, this book brings both an intellectual and a creative focus to the many myriad ways we might work as supervisors and supervisees. Designed to assist counsellors and psychotherapists as we manage the psychological impacts of the ever-shifting cultural tectonic plates within a constantly changing global landscape, this book should be essential reading for all in our profession.’
Dr Dwight Turner, author, psychotherapist, supervisor and workshop facilitator, and Senior Lecturer in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Brighton
