Elise Stephenson
Dr. Elise Stephenson is an award-winning researcher and the Deputy Director of the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership at the Australian National University. She is also the Gender, Space and National Security Fellow at the ANU’s National Security College, an adjunct at the Griffith Asia Institute, and a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Washington.
Dr. Stephenson was the lead researcher for three landmark studies on gender equality in the global space sector, published by the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs. These studies provided world-first data on gender representation and policy adoption in over 100 space agencies and organizations worldwide, including NASA and the Australian Space Agency.
Her book, “The Face of the Nation” (2024), received the International Studies Association Bertha Lutz Prize and a commendation from the Australian Political Science Association Crisp Prize. Her research has been featured in publications such as the Hague Journal of Diplomacy and the European Journal of Politics and Gender.
Dr. Stephenson was recognized by Deloitte, Google, and Energy Australia as one of Australia’s Top 50 Outstanding LGBTIQ+ Leaders. Her Fulbright research on diversity in space was supported by Monash University.
