Summary
Tragedy and triumph unfurl when a devout Mormon family hires a head-strong young widow during trying economic times. Two families – one Texan, one Mormon – develop an embattled but gripping relationship in the Arizona desert, while WWI rages abroad. Long-kept secrets unfold as they challenge tradition and ultimately learn to love. Power’s Garden is told from the alternating perspectives of Duett Brennick, a Texan rancher, and Malvina Beecham, a Mormon school teacher.

Critics Review
Power’s Garden is a powerfully written story about a tragic yet important episode in the history of the American West and the integration of the Latter-Day-Saint culture. While impossible to put down, this fascinating historical account will also highlight human nature and enlighten anyone who wants to better understand how a nation’s personality can be developed – Dr. Robert P. Young, Education Week lecturer, Brigham Young University, Member-Abraham Lincoln Forum, Smithsonian Institution, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and the Foundation for Ancient American Research
Love doesn’t care for God or earthly disagreements. Power’s Garden is the story of a typical Texas family and their clash with another family in the area who happen to be Mormons. Not getting along without any hitches, the families find themselves butting heads. But in spite of this, there may be hope yet as two of their clans find something more important. A story of rural love in the early twentieth century, Power’s Garden is a wonderful read that many will relish. Highly recommended. –Midwest Book Reviews
“Quietly impressive, meticulously researched … A surprise ending polishes off the finale.” – The Arizona Daily Star
