About The Author

Dee Lauder

David Pinniger

David Pinniger’s passion for insects started as a boy when he helped his amateur entomologist father catch, identify, and release dragonflies. He began his career as a food inspector with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) and later became a research scientist for the MAFF Central Science Laboratory in Slough. In 1996, he transitioned to an independent consultant, offering specialist advice and training on pest management in museums, galleries, archives, and historic houses. David currently serves as the pest management strategy adviser for English Heritage and consults for numerous national museums, galleries, and historic houses across the UK. He is a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society. His contributions to preventive conservation were recognized with the 2008 Plowden Medal, and he was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s 2008 Birthday Honours list.

Dee Lauder

Dee Lauder has been employed by English Heritage since March 1989. She joined the Collections Conservation Team in 2001 and, in 2003, was appointed to lead the implementation of English Heritage’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Programme and IPM standards. Dee’s responsibilities include deploying control methods for sites with collections and providing expert advice on insect pest identification, monitoring, and treatment strategies suitable for significant and historic collections. She also conducts training in these areas for English Heritage staff. Furthermore, Dee extends her IPM expertise to organizations and individuals outside English Heritage and is an active member of the Pest Odyssey UK Steering Committee, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting IPM within cultural heritage institutions.
