About The Author
Brenda J. Brown
Born in Maryland, outside of Washington DC, Brenda J. Brown has lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, for twenty years. She is a professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Manitoba, teaching Ecology + Design, Field Studies, Design Research, and various undergraduate and graduate Environmental Design and Landscape Architecture Studios. Brown’s work focuses on revealing natural and cultural landscape ecosystem phenomena, processes and relationships. With a particular focus on sound, her projects have ranged from a hummingbird habitat restoration in Tzintzuntzan, Mexico, to site-specific video installations documenting Winnipeg’s rivers’ spring ice break-up. For several years she has been preoccupied with wind and trees, and most recently, the trees of Manitoba farmstead shelterbelts and those who live with them.
