Bill Finger
William Finger
Born on February 8, 1914, William Finger met cartoonist Bob Kane in 1938, leading to a collaboration that would soon produce Batman. Finger’s love for pulp fiction and movies heavily influenced his writing style and plots for comic books.
Beyond Batman, Finger contributed to numerous other DC characters and titles. He scripted the daily and Sunday newspaper strip continuities for Batman and Robin in the 1940s and also wrote for Quality, Fawcett, and Timely comics.
Finger’s television writing career in the late 1950s and early 1960s included work on shows like 77 Sunset Strip, The Roaring Twenties, and Hawaiian Eye. His contributions to the super-hero genre extended to television in the 1960s with material for The New Adventures of Superman and a two-part episode for the 1966 Batman series featuring the Clock King.
William Finger passed away in New York City on January 24, 1974. In 1999, he was posthumously inducted into the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame.
