Alwyn Owen (Author)

Alwyn (Hop) Price Ireland Owen (1926-2024) was a broadcaster, writer, photographer and musician best known for the Spectrum documentaries that he produced for Radio New Zealand. His now classic story for children, How the Kiwi Lost its Wings, was broadcast on the radio from the 1960s and became a firm favourite. It was first published as a picture book by Reed in 2002, with illustrations by Dave Gunson, and has remained in print ever since.

Dave Gunson (Illustrator)

Dave Gunson is an illustrator celebrated especially for his beautiful depictions of New Zealand wildlife. Born in Liverpool, UK, he moved to New Zealand in 1969, and has contributed to the creation of more than two hundred books over the course of his career. He lives and works in Auckland.
