Ai Yazawa
Ai Yazawa was born in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, and aspired to be a fashion designer. She attended the Osaka Mode Academy, a highly competitive fashion school.
Yazawa made her manga debut in 1985 in the anthology RIBON with the title 15th Year. While her stories often explored themes of young love, her distinctive artistic style and fashion sense were what truly resonated with readers.
From 1999 to 2009, Ai Yazawa was the best-selling shojo manga author in Japan. She has published eleven additional titles and has sold over 100,000,000 books in Japan. Her work NANA achieved international acclaim, leading to adaptations such as movies, an animated TV series, and fashion lines. It also influenced artists like Gwen Stefani. Paradise Kiss, translated into 10 languages, is widely regarded as her signature work.
