About The Author
Robert McCloskey
Robert McCloskey (1914-2003) was an acclaimed author and illustrator known for his enduring children’s books. He grew up in Hamilton, Ohio, and lived in various locations including Boston, New York, and Maine.
McCloskey was the first recipient of two Caldecott Medals, awarded for Make Way for Ducklings and Time of Wonder. He also received Caldecott Honors for Blueberries for Sal, One Morning in Maine, and Journey Cake, Ho! by Ruth Sawyer.
In 2000, he was recognized as a Living Legend by the Library of Congress. His beloved characters are commemorated in statues located in Boston’s Public Garden and Lentil Park in Hamilton, Ohio.
