Critics Review
‘A Cup of Kindness is both a thoroughly enjoyable and hugely thought-provoking read. Kindness in leadership is simply too important to be ignored and yet too easily dismissed. And that is why this book is a welcome addition to the growing number of publications that explore its meaning and importance and debunk the myths that continue to undermine the significance we attach to leading kindly. In a clear and succinct presentation, the author shares experiences that will resonate with so many readers, and uses these to challenge widely held assumptions about the best way to lead. What matters is trust, compassion, empathy and empowerment, not fear, coercion and control. We are offered a series of powerful reflections on what makes a good leader and constructive advice on how to lead kindly. The use of personal and professional experience augmented by examples from research and from popular culture results in a clear and compelling demonstration of how and why kindness makes a real difference to organizations and to the people who make them work.’
–Professor Christine Ennew, Warwick Business School‘This manuscript is a compelling and heartfelt exploration of kindness as a transformative force in the workplace. Through vivid personal stories and thoughtful reflections, the author demonstrates how small acts of kindness and compassion can make a huge difference and have an impact on individuals and leadership culture. What stands out is its honesty and highlighting a contrast between toxic and nurturing environments by providing examples. The narrative is indeed insightful as it weaves together the writer’s employment journey with lived examples. It challenges outdated myths about leadership and highlights that kindness is not a weakness, but rather a strength. The book resonates with conversations about empathy, trust and psychology at work. It will be invaluable to leaders, professionals and anyone seeking to build a healthier workplace and will be a valuable addition to leadership literature. It should inspire, change and remind us that kindness in the workplace is not optional, but essential.’
