Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad
Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad is the Malaysian Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability since December 2023. Previously, from 2022 to 2023, he served as the Minister for Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change. He was among the youngest ministers appointed to the Anwar Ibrahim cabinet.
He currently serves as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Setiawangsa and is the Vice President of the People’s Justice Party (KEADILAN).
Nik Nazmi began his political career as the Selangor State Assemblyman for Seri Setia in 2008, completing two terms in that role. He was appointed as Political Secretary to the Selangor Chief Minister from 2008 to 2010. From 2014 to 2018, he held the position of Selangor State EXCO (State Minister) for Education, Science, Technology and Human Capital Development.
He won the Setiawangsa Parliamentary constituency in 2018 and was re-elected in 2022. During his first term as MP, he chaired the Special Select Committee on Defence and Home Affairs.
Within KEADILAN, his leadership roles have included Communications Director (2010-2013), Youth Leader (2014-2018), Chief Organising Secretary (2018-2022), and currently Vice President (2022-present). He also served as the Youth Leader of the Pakatan Harapan coalition from 2017 to 2018.
Nik Nazmi is the founder of the Mentari Project, an educational program for underprivileged communities, and the community football club Setiawangsa Rangers FC.
He has authored several books, including “Malaysian Son: A Progressive’s Political Journey in the Heart of Southeast Asia” and “Moving Forward: Malays for the 21st Century.”
His education includes attendance at the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) and a law degree from King’s College London.
