What They're Saying
Critics Review
“The women in V. Castro’s Tales of the Dark Feminine are not just some of the most beloved and notorious figures from global mythology and folklore. They are every woman who has ever felt deeply and truly, who has wanted more, given without reservation and taken without permission. Their legends are timeless reminders of the triumphs and failures of women across space and time. The book is a perfect introduction to this eternally relevant sisterhood.”– Helen Nde, author of The Watkins Book of African Folklore“If you look at mythology and legend, the gods were never supposed to be ‘love and light’. Goddesses in particular have been tamed and reduced to associations with love or fertility. In these tales of vengeance, envy, curiosity, and hubris, V. Castro has given these goddesses back their fangs, claws, rage, and flaws. And they’re so much more relatable for it!”– Icy Sedgwick, author of Bring Me Love
