Gary Phillips is an author whose works span novels, comics, novellas, and short stories. He has also edited or co-edited several anthologies, including the Anthony Award-winning The Obama Inheritance: Fifteen Stories of Conspiracy Noir.

Almost thirty years after its initial publication, his debut novel, Violent Spring, was recognized as one of the essential crime novels of Los Angeles. Phillips also contributed as a writer and co-producer for Snowfall, a series streaming on Hulu, which explores the crack epidemic and the CIA’s involvement in 1980s South Central Los Angeles, the neighborhood where he grew up.
