What They're Saying

Critics Review

“As a single parent of two young boys, and in a moment when we see inclusive programs like comprehensive sex education coming under vicious attack in schools, it is more important than ever for parents to be well prepared to have important conversations with their children. The developmentally appropriate information, question examples, and conversation prompts offer parents the support, affirmation, and guidance they need to tackle sex ed subjects confidently. I’ll be using this resource thoroughly!” –Christine Soyong Harley, president & CEO of SIECUS: Sex Ed for Social Change“Few things in life are harder than parenting a teen or tween, but this book provides help with the sensitive and complex topic of sex and sexuality. Dan Rice’s expert guidance and recommendations about what to say and when will help parents and caregivers share their values about relationships, communication, and sexuality with their kids. As a sex educator and parent, I find this book to be a must-have for all parents of tweens and teens.” –Nora Gelperin, M.Ed., director of sex education & training, Advocates for Youth“Parents are their children’s first and arguably most important source of information about sexuality, but it can be hard to talk about! With compassion for parents and children alike, sex education expert Dan Rice delivers accurate, up-to-date information and practical tips and questions to support parents in discussing the many aspects of sexuality with their children. Emphasizing listening and non-judgment, this book masterfully transforms the one-way birds and the bees talk into multiple conversations and opportunities for parents to learn about their children, answer their questions, impart facts and correct their misperceptions, convey family values, and support them in their sexual development without shame or stigma.” –Lydia A. Shrier, MD, MPH, adolescent medicine clinician and researcher“Regularly talking with your children about sex and sexuality is the best way to help them grow up safe, healthy, and capable of developing loving, respectful relationships. This indispensable resource belongs on the must-read list of any parent who wants to feel empowered and confident in their role as their child’s most important sex educator.” –Eva S. Goldfarb, PhD, professor of public health and co-author of Rights, Respect, Responsibility: K-12 Sex Education
