Summary
Guts the Black Swordsman just can’t seem to find a little peace. On his way to the idyllic tranquility of his miniature Puck’s homeland of Elfhelm, Guts and his companions, at the behest of a local witch, assist a village beset by a plague of hideous and deadly trolls. Assisted by the witch’s disciple, Schierke, the warrior band manages to turn the tide against the beasts, but when a monstrous ogre hits town, a tide of another kind is needed, a mystic flood to wash the town clean. But when Casca and Farnese are carried away by the flood, they become prisoners in the troll’s den, where a fate far worse than any imaginable death awaits.

Kentaro Miura debuted his first manga, Berserk Prototype, a 48-page introduction to the Berserk fantasy world, in 1988 while attending Nihon University. This work earned him a prize from the Comi Manga School. After receiving his doctorate degree in 1989, Miura began work on King of Wolves, a project based on a script by Buronson, the writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist Of The North Star).
The first volume of Berserk was released in 1990, achieving moderate success. Miura later collaborated with Buronson again on a manga titled Japan. Miura’s fame surged with the “The Golden Age” story arc of Berserk. The immense success of this masterpiece established him as one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists.
In 1997, Miura oversaw the production of the 25-episode anime adaptation of Berserk, which aired on NTV that same year. The Berserk series has inspired a wide range of merchandise, including statues, action figures, key rings, video games, and a trading card game.
In 2002, Kentaro Miura was awarded second place in the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize of Excellence for his work on Berserk. He resided in Tokyo, Japan.
