Kentaro Miura
Kentaro Miura debuted his manga Berserk Prototype, a 48-page introduction to the Berserk fantasy world, in 1988 while attending Nihon University. It won him a prize from the Comi Manga School. After receiving a doctorate degree in 1989, Miura began work on King of Wolves, based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star).
The first volume of Berserk was released in 1990 with limited success. Miura also collaborated with Buronson again on the manga Japan. Miura’s fame grew significantly after Berserk began its “The Golden Age” story arc. The immense success of this masterpiece established him as one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists.
In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired on NTV. The series has since spawned a wide range of merchandise, including statues, action figures, key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received second place in the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk.
